Kathrin Kur was born in Germany and studied in visual arts at UDK Berlin and Brighton University and received an MA in Critical Theory from Birkbeck College, University of London. Her art work spans photography and installation; many of her images concentrating on the boundaries between familiarity and privacy, and the making public of covert technologies.

Kur's methods include the appropriation of technical photographic techniques - assuming the clinical stance of police documentation images to present photographs made clandestinely - and the use of remote imaging vehicles to probe the boundary of private space and our increasingly uncertain relationship with state agencies in this security-afflicted 21st century culture.
